Please mom!

So, getting ready for school the other morning...

The girls are laying on my bed watching TV and a commercial comes on.

It's a commercial for a Shirley Temple DVD box set. They are showing clips of her most well-known song and dance routines.

Conversation with Chandler begins:

C: "Mom?"
J: "Yeah?"
C: "Please don't ever make me watch THAT!"
J: Trying not to laugh "That's Shirley Temple, Chandler."
C: "Yeah. Just don't ever make me watch it, ok?"
J: "Not a problem!"

I know some people may hate me for this... they may even stop reading my blog, but I have never cared for Shirley Temple.
Once again proving that Chandler is most definitely MY daughter! :)

Apparently he's an assassin...

Real life conversation between Brandon and Chandler at the dinner table...

C: "Dad, Jesus died for us."
B: "I know."
C: "Why did Jesus die?"
B: "So that we can go to heaven."
C: "When will I go to heaven?"
B: "Not for a long time."
C: "Like when someone shoots or kills me?"
B: "What?"
C: "When someone shoots or kill me?"
B: "No one is going to shoot or kill you."
C: "Why not?"
B: "Because I'm here to keep you safe."
C: "How will you keep me safe?"
B: "You probably don't know this, but I'm a highly trained assassin."
C: "Why are you a trained assassin?"
B: "To keep you and Mom and Riley safe."
C: "Do you have big muscles?"
B: "Yes."
C: "Where will you put the bad guys?"
B: "On the ground until the police come."
C: "Okay."

The Blues...

Friday was BLUE day. I'm a little late posting about it because we had a BUSY day!!

Chandler wanted to wear her blue Cinderella shirt to school.

She had a pretty good day at school. She did have to move her clip to the bottom of the happy face... more talking in the hallway.

After Brandon got home from work we headed over to the park for a birthday party.

At the party the kids ran around, got sweaty and wore themselves out!

We took them home. Put Riley in bed. Got Chandler dressed for bed... then we went out!

The babysitter arrived at 8:00. We went to meet Jonathan and Amy at their house. We had dessert at DQ and then went to the 10:00 showing of The Dark Knight.
YES THE 10:00 SHOWING!!!
I have decided that I am officially too old for the 10:00 showing!

There were pretty much only high school kids and college freshmen in the theatre.

At one point Amy and I turned around and shot death arrows from our eyes at 2 boys sitting behind us... TALKING ON THEIR PHONES!!!! UGH!

We didn't get home until almost 1 am. I'm exhausted today... especially since I had a meeting at 9:30 this morning!

Go Green!

Green Day was today!

I couldn't get Chandler to be serious about taking a picture today. I would tell her to smile and all she would do was make this goofy little face....

She had to move her clip to the bottom of the happy face today. Apparently, talking in the hallway is a big no-no. :) Anyone who knows Chandler knows she likes to TALK!

Tomorrow it's BLUE day.

To respond to Kristy's comment. We got a calendar last week that told us what colors to wear on what day. Chandler just likes to announce it to us as if she knows something we don't know!!

Mellow Yellow

Does anyone drink that anymore? Do they even make it? Was it a Pepsi Product or a Coke Product?

Today was YELLOW day. Chandler is really getting into this color week thing. Everyday on the way home from school she tells me what color she is supposed to wear the next day. Tonight at dinner she announced for us all, "Tomorrow is GREEN day!" I thought that was funny... I immediately thought of the band, Green Day.
**Please note: I am in NO WAY promoting Green Day the band. :)

I did NOT ask her to pose. In fact she walked right outside and said, "Ready Mom!"
Thanks to Jonathan and Amy for the fabulous yellow shirt... they brought it back from Alaska this past spring. It was PERFECT for today!

Chandler had a great day today. It started out a little rough. She has a stopped up nose and she must not have slept all that well last night... she was slightly emotional this morning.

When we got to school she asked me to walk her into the gym... Everyday we have been early. The teachers have asked the Kindergarten students to be at school by 7:30 so that they can walk together as a class to their room. We've been at school by 7:20 every morning...

Because of her emotional state this morning, we were running a little behind. Not technically late (they are tardy at 7:45), but we got there after the kindergarten kids had left the gym. One of the teachers recognized Chandler (I hope that's not a bad thing!!!) and told us to go on down to her class. I asked if it was ok for me to walk with her... It was. :)

I took her down to her class. On the way we passed Tito, the boy she "bonked on the hand" last Thursday. Apparently, Tito doesn't speak any English... NONE AT ALL.

I left her at her classroom and told the teaching assistant that we were having "separation issues" this morning. She said that the kids that don't go through that the 1st week of school usually experience it the 2nd week. GREAT! FABULOUS! I was really hoping that we were on a roll... PLEASE don't tell me she is going to regress on me! :)

No clip movement today! :)

Go Big Orange!! NOT!

Have I mentioned that the members of the Miles family are avid UGA fans?

In fact, the very first letter that Chandler learned was "G". You would show her a "G" and she would respond, "Hey! G for Georgia!"

One day at McDonald's during lunch time she walked over to a guy (probably around my age) and said, "Hey! You have a G for Georgia on your hat!" He smiled at her and said, "You know what? You're right!"
She was very proud of herself.

So, that being said... today was ORANGE day at school. Chandler owns NOTHING orange. Especially because the most common orange in Tennessee is that obnoxious Tennessee Volunteer Orange! YUCK!

What did we buy to wear on ORANGE day?? An obnoxious orange shirt. It was the only one in the store... no variation on shade!
At least it doesn't say "University of Tennessee" on it! :)

She was all about striking a pose today! :)

She had another good day. Didn't even have to move her clip!

I dare you NOT to smile!

WARNING: The following video contains the most adorable baby EVER and and an obnoxious southern accent!

At dinner on Saturday night I made Riley perform. I wanted Brandon to see her newest "trick".

Smile for the camera...

Seeing Red!

This week at school, the kindergarten students are focusing on colors. Today Chandler was supposed to wear something red to school.

We searched her closet Sunday night... nothing like planning ahead! :) We couldn't come up with anything red that still fit so we headed off to Wal-mart. She found this shirt and liked it because it had pink butterflies at the bottom.

She also informed me, on the way home today, that her clip stayed at the top of the happy face ALL DAY LONG. :)

The 1st week of school!

I've been getting a little grief over not having posted the 1st day of school photos. :)

I wanted to post about the 1st week of school all at one time. So here it is...

Chandler's 1st day of Kindergarten. August 11, 2008.

We took Chandler to the gym to wait for class to start. She was a little overwhelmed by all of the kids (grades k-5) in the gym. To be honest, I was too!
On of the kids from church ran up to Chandler and said hi. That helped a little. :) Abby is in 2nd grade, but Chandler was still glad to see a familiar face.

Chandler and Abby

Waiting with all of the other kindergarten students

When the kindergarten students were dismissed from the gym, we walked Chandler to her class. She found her supply cubby, the hook for the backpack, and her seat.

At her "blue table seat" as she called it.

She got a little emotional when she realized that we would be leaving her soon, but her teacher came over and talked to her about a paper they would be working on. She perked right up and went to work writing her name.
In true Chandler style, she looked up at me and said, "Ok Mom. You can go home now."

I gave her a quick hug. Riley gave her a kiss. Brandon hugged her and we left.

When we picked her up that afternoon she jumped in the car like everything was "old hat" and we headed home. We had to pretty much drag information out of her. She finished her paper. When to "blocks" then to "housekeeping". They had lunch... she only ate her sandwich and drank her juice box. She ran out of time. :) The went outside. They laid their heads on their tables for a little while to rest. Then it was time to come home.
Brandon wanted to know why they didn't learn anything on the 1st day of school! :)

The rest of the week was much of the same.

Apparently she has had a few "behavior warnings" this week.

On Wednesday she had to move her "clip" to the bottom of the happy face because she said, "I can't see" to her teacher (all of this is according to Chandler). Being on the bottom of the happy face is still a happy face, but it's like a warning before having to move to the "so-so face".

On Thursday she moved to the bottom of the happy face because she, "bonked the new boy, Tito, on the hand."

On Friday she moved to the bottom of the happy face because some kids "ran on the playground". I think they were supposed to line up and instead they ran outside.

**Next week they are working on colors and introducing the letters a-e.**
Brandon will be glad she is finally going to be learning something. :)

What has been done is being Undone...

Well, where to start??

Remember yesterday's post? The one in which I told you (very briefly) that I cleaned my living room and folded clothes while watching a cute movie and a super cool sneak peek?

So, here's what happened AFTER I worked so hard on my living room...

1:00 Riley wakes up from her nap and has a snack.
2:00 We leave to go get Chandler from school.
2:45 Chandler finally gets out of school. :)
3:00 We make a quick stop at Wal-mart.
3:30 We arrive home.
3:45 I pass by the living room and that's when I notice IT!

In the 15 +/- a few seconds that we have been home my kids have DESTROYED the living room!! Absolutely DESTROYED!
There were Cheerios all over the floor. Blankets and pillows tossed about. Chandler socks and shoes tossed into the center of the room.
AND THE BEST PART...
Riley sitting on the floor with clothes surrounding her and the laundry basket ON HER HEAD!

I screamed, ranted, and raved I very calmly shooed them from the room and started cleaning up AGAIN.

I'm ALMOST finished picking things up off the floor when I noticed that other than the sound of the TV in my room, it's VERY quite in my house. NEVER A GOOD SIGN!

I walk into the kitchen to discover that Riley has pulled Chandler's backpack off of the table and has dumped the contents onto the floor... it's only the 2nd day of school so that's not TOO big of a mess, but what is a mess??
She has also emptied the ENTIRE CONTENTS OF MY PURSE AND WALLET all over the floor AND she is painting herself with my LIPGLOSS!!!

Every receipt, every card, every picture, every dollar (there were not many of those!).
All the loose RANDOM things a mom keeps in her purse... Little People, crayons, CDs (I don't know WHY there was a CD in my purse!), hair bows (shameless plug!), EVERYTHING!

So, what happened then?
I did my best to get things sort of put back together and when my husband arrived home I begged him to let us eat out before Chandler's Back to School Skating Party hosted by our church. :)

Cute and Entertaining

I just spent Riley's nap time folding clothes and cleaning my living room. Boring, right? Well, I've had a DVD sitting on top of the entertainment center for almost a week.... I've been waiting patiently for Brandon to watch it with me, but "our" evenings have been a little tied up in something called The Olympics. :)
Normally I'm a big fan of The Olympic Games, but this year it seems off... maybe it's because I missed Opening Ceremonies. I don't know.

ANYWAY... this DVD is basically collecting dust on my entertainment center so I decided to pop it in the player while I folded and cleaned.

Penelope. Cute movie. Fun story. Clean language. Lovable character... and let me just add... James McAvoy. :)

AND because of my previous "promise" to TRY to avoid mentioning THAT book series and THAT movie... I'm NOT going to tell you all about the great sneak peek at a brand new scene from THAT movie coming out in December. It's only a few seconds long... so I didn't feel guilty for watching it twice. :)

So, check out Penelope (and THE preview... make sure you watch the whole thing. The sneak peek is at the end of the behind the scenes part!).

Exciting AND Funny!

Ok. I promise I'm not going to mention Twilight again for awhile.... well, ok I can't really promise that, but I'll TRY not to mention it for awhile! :)

Check out this preview for the movie coming out December 12th:

Ok, now this one:

And here's the best one yet... The spoof! :)

If that last one doesn't make you want to see the movie then I don't know what will. :)

Sound Off!

OK. moms!

What do you do that is just for yourself?

What do you do that makes you feel like you are "more than JUST mom"?

Sunday, August 10, 2008

So, what are YOU doing tomorrow?

Well? What are you doing tomorrow??

Here's what I'm NOT doing tomorrow...

I'm NOT sleeping in.
I'm NOT lounging around the house.
I'm NOT going to be lugging 2 kids around town.

So what am I doing?

Getting up at 6:15 am.
Having breakfast with my family.
Taking Chandler to school.
Going to the post office.
Working out at the Y.
Buying paint for my guestroom.
Picking up Chandler from school.
Going to a Kindergarten Orientation meeting.
Having dinner with my family.

What??
OH! Did I forget to tell you that CHANDLER STARTS KINDERGARTEN TOMORROW!!!! AGH!!!

She is SO excited that she can hardly stand it!

Brandon is going to work a half day tomorrow so he can go with us (me and Riley) in the morning and then he can be home in time to go with us to pick her up.

SHE DOESN'T KNOW HE'S GOING TO BE COMING WITH ME TO PICK HER UP.... shhhhh! It's a surprise. :)

So, what will you be doing on Monday?

Sunday, August 3, 2008

Sorry...

I've been "away" for a few days. You may or may not have noticed. :)

My newest obsession, Twilight (previous reference here) has come to a close. NOT the obsession... just the book saga. The 4th (and final book) in the series was released on Saturday and I have hardly been able to tear myself away from it.

As I read:
At first I was happy, then disappointed, then confused, then I had a moment of enlightenment, then I was confused again, then relieved, then pleased, then sad (to the point of TEARS PEOPLE), then encouraged, then excited, then a brief moment of nostalgia set in. In the end I was left with a feeling of satisfaction rather than the feeling of sadness and emptiness I was half-way expecting.

Yes, all from one book. Of course, 754 pages is a lot of time to evoke a lot of emotion. :)

Whoa! I need a nap! :)
